Souldiers of Christ:
Sponsorship That Transforms Lives
Sponsor a Child
Liberia is among the poorest countries in the world. The country experiences intergenerational poverty, poor healthcare, and lack of infrastructure, much of which stems from two civil wars and a deadly Ebola outbreak. Working together, Franciscan Works and Liberia Mission empower young Liberians to break the cycle of poverty and become faithful future leaders in their families, community, and country.
When you sponsor a poor, orphaned, or abandoned child on Liberia Mission, you provide them with stability through a Catholic education, a loving home, nutritious meals, medical care, and support as they grow.
"You paid for my entire life when I was just a kid who had no opportunities for something better. You fed me, clothed me, and educated me. Words can not say how much you have helped me and my family, and from the bottom of my heart, I would like to say thank you!"
- Handful Kollie, former beneficiary of Liberia Mission
Handful was the second refugee child to be taken in by Liberia Mission in 2003. He was given the name "Handful" because, when he was born, he was so tiny that he could fit into a hand. Handful recently graduated from the University of Liberia! Your sponsorship helps Liberian youth like Handful to flourish and succeed.
What is Souldiers of Christ?
Liberia Mission’s residential children participate in a community outreach program called Souldiers of Christ. Every Sunday, equipped with garden tools and rosaries, they march out into the local community to help the less fortunate with much needed yard work. Sometimes they distribute food and other times they pray with the sick. They give what little they have, grateful for the abundance they have received. They are Souldiers of Christ.
Realizing that we are in this battle for the sake of the Gospel together, our sponsorship program is named “Souldiers of Christ." Just as our students give what little they have, we know that you also generously give what you have and fight to do so. Souldiers of Christ is a recognition of the battles we face together: the battle against poverty, the battle to give when we feel we have nothing left, and, ultimately, the battle for the Kingdom of God.
