Saying "Yes" to God's Call
The opportunity to develop a good prayer life is the most important service we could hope to offer at Liberia Mission. It provides a strong spiritual foundation rooted in faith that allows our beneficiaries to excel in their studies and in their work. Without it, they wouldn’t know where to turn when times get tough and challenges add up, as they inevitably do in the Liberian setting. We are so blessed that three of our students, Nedeh, Michael, and Matthew, have walked closely enough with God in their time on the mission that they have responded willingly to His Vocation in their lives.
“I am happy to be back on the mission during my summer vacation and enjoy helping with the religious activities and contributing to my brothers’ and sisters’ spiritual growth. I feel so fulfilled whenever I can render my servicers on the mission. There are many similarities between the mission and the seminary in terms of spirituality, and I love it.
— Michael
Nedeh and Michael entered the seminary in October 2020. It was so beautiful to see two young men, having faced the direst of circumstances growing up, respond affirmatively to God’s call to a life of sacrifice. They did not resent their Creator or their fellow man for the difficulties they had experienced; rather, they found peace, strength, and joy in the prayer that they encountered on the Mission. They knew that God has a plan for each and every one of us; Nedeh and Michael entrusted all their suffering to God, and He repaid them by speaking directly to their hearts, revealing His perfect Will for their lives.
Over the past few months, it has been a joy to see them come back to the mission for their summer break; they have lead moments of prayer and adoration, taught our newest students all the essential Catholic prayers, and have done whatever is asked of them with a spirit of service. God truly transforms our deepest suffering into a concrete sign of His love.
“Responding to God’s call and entering the seminary is the best decision I have ever made in my entire life, and I also feel and believe I am in personal contact with God. I spend most of my day meditating about Jesus. I love being able to share this with my younger brothers and sisters as I spend time on the mission during my break.
— Nedeh
Matthew is graduating from St. Kizito this year and has been on the mission since he was a young boy. He, too, has heard God’s call in his heart and desires to form part of the Brothers Hospitallers of St. John of God, the order of consecrated men and women that run St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital in Monrovia. Catholic Hospital has been serving the health needs of our beneficiaries throughout the years, so it is no surprise that Matthew has been touched by this very real, life-saving ministry of God that can be found not far from the mission. He begins his spiritual journey after graduating from high school. Please pray for Matthew!
“I am so excited to be walking out of high school, even though there were some challenges. I am very grateful to Liberia Mission for all their prayers and financial support rendered to me and my poor family in Liberia. I am planning to enter the brotherhood of St. John of God, who run Catholic Hospital here in Monrovia!”

To have three young men over the course of one year begin exploring their vocations to the priesthood and religious life is an overwhelming Grace for the mission. Perhaps one day one of them will be able to come back and serve the mission as its spiritual father…who knows! However, they are just getting started, so please keep them in your prayers. Also, please let us know if you feel a special calling in YOUR heart to sponsor any one of these young men…they would love to have your support as they walk a road that leads to a life of service. God bless!
